Date of creation:

25.02.2004.

Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of map:

Map was created based on information taken from open-published literature and maps of scale 1:12 000 000 и 30-33 000 000.

Projection:

"Alber's Equal Area Conic for the USSR", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0.

Basic contents:

Vector map. Area of species distribution is shown by polygons. Zones of pest damage are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of classifier:

The zone of Cabbage White harmfulness is located within the area of industrial growing of cruciferous vegetable cultures. Within this area the zone of low damage is outlined according to where the pest population density has economic significance, having the following economic threshold: Where 5% of plants are infested with egg-batches and hatched caterpillars in the whorl phase and 5-10% populated plants in cabbage head setting phase at average density 5-10 caterpillars per plant (Sazonov et al., 1991; Slavgorodskaya-Kurpieva et al., 2001). The Cabbage White is sometimes able to exceed considerably this threshold (Kharchenko et al., 1975), but in practice it is accounted for together with the Small White (Pieris rapae L.) and other lepidopteran pests of cruciferous cultures; treatments against this whole complex of the pests are carried out simultaneously.

Method of map production:

Scientists were given maps with boundaries of Oblasts and arable lands. After reviewing historic literature, species distribution was hand drawn on maps. If data were on the Oblast-level, distribution is on the Oblast level. In some cases, Oblast.s are further refined by boundaries of the Arable Land Map (Koroljeva et al., 2003). The base map was taken from L.vovskii (1984) and Lukhtanov & Lukhtanov (1994). The northern and eastern borders of the area were adjusted according to L.vovskii (1999), Dubatolov & Gordeev (1999). The southern border was adjusted according to Daricheva (1988), D.yakonov & Kozhanchikov (1949) and the internet sites listed below. The zone of low damage was determined according to D.yakonov & Kozhanchikov (1949), Korshunov (1968), Nekrutenko (1974), Kharchenko et al. (1975), Provorotova (1974, 1977), Nekrutenko (1985), Kadamshoev (1986), Daricheva (1988) and L.vovskii (1999) and is aligned with the industrial growing areas of vegetable cultures (Tochenov, 1984). Hand drawn maps were scanned, georeferenced and vectorized.
