In the sunflower area within the former USSR, two zones of severity of Dry Head Rot are determined; i.e., the zone of high severity, where crop losses reach 25% (Tikhonov, 1975), and the zone of low severity, where crop losses are about 5% (Yakutkin, unpubl.).Method of map production:
Published data are used for map drawing (Gorlenko, 1968; Tikhonov, 1975; Kukin, 1982). Unpublished data of the author are also used. The disease area includes territories of the former USSR where sunflower is growing. Zone of high severity of the disease includes the southern part of Central Black Soil Region, the Northern Caucasus, central and southern parts of the Middle Volga Region, southern Ural and Siberia in Russia; Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Moldova. Zone of low severity includes the other parts of Russia where sunflower is growing. Specification of the disease area and zones severity is carried out on vector map of regions of the sunflower greatest distribution according to I.E. Koroleva et al. (2003).Reference citations:
