Basic contents:

Vector map. Area of species distribution and zones of pest damage are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of the classifier:

Within the area, 3 zones are allocated: high, moderate, and low pest damage. In the zone of high pest damage the number of A. anceps annually exceeds economic thresholds. In dry and hot weather (when temperatures are higher than 23°C), the threshold level is 10 to 20 caterpillars on 100 ears (wheat seed production) and above 30 ones (food wheat); in moderately warm and dry weather (temperature 20-21°C), the threshold is 10 and 20 caterpillars, on seed wheat and food wheat, respectively. In damp and cool years (temperature 17-19°C) the threshold is 7 to 10 caterpillars on 100 plants respectively (Pospelov, 1989); (Tanskii et al., 1998). In the zone of moderate pest damage, numbers exceed economic thresholds periodically (2-3 years per decade) and in the zone of low pest damage, numbers exceed threshold levels occasionally.

Method of map production:

The map is compiled through an analysis of open published cartographical materials and literature. Grigor'eva's map (Polyakov, 1975) is used as a base map. The area of the species was determined according to: (Grigor'eva & Slivkina, 1958); (Pospelov, 1975); (Azhbenov, 1995). According to Grigor'eva & Slivkina (1958), the northern border of the area has been shifted to the Perm Region, and eastern border is extended from Kemerovo through Krasnoyarsk to Nizhnyaya Poima, and further southward, along the border of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Tuva with Irkutsk Region and Buryatia. The southeastern border of the area is corrected after Azhbenov (1995). Zones of pest damage are given according to cartographic data of Grigor'eva & Slivkina (1958); Polyakov (1975) and Azhbenov (1995).
