Within the alfalfa growing area, the zone of the North Caucasus is singled out where the Alfalfa Cyst Nematode is widely distributed (more than 51% of permanently infested areas), having high severity (50% of yield losses). This nematode is not found in other regions of Russia. It is found in some fields in Ukraine and Uzbekistan.Method of map production:
The zones of distribution and high severity of H.medicaginis are marked on the blank map with regions of alfalfa growing and with political divisions of the Former Soviet Union. The results of 1980s surveys (Terent'yeva, Alpat'yev, 1972; Dzhunusov, 1985; Artokhina, 1989) have served as the data sources. The summarized data (Polyakov et al., 1979) shows limited distribution of this species that might be explained by its endemism and oligophagous mode of life.Sources of the data:
