Within the area of sugar beet growing, the zone of high severity of H.schachtii is depicted, connected with the zone of intensive crop growing. Here the nematode has wide distribution (up to 50% of the sown areas are infested), high population density (more than 1000 larvae per 100 cm3), causing high yield losses in sugar beet roots (70%). The regions are also shown on the map where H. schachtii is found in some fields, causing yield losses of the affected crops in some years.Method of map production:
The area and severity zone of sugar beet cyst nematode have been marked on a blank map with the main regions of sugar beet growing and political divisions of the Former Soviet Union. The results of 1960-1990s surveys (Skarbilovich, 1960; Gus'kova et al., 1981; Babich, 1990) have served as the data sources. The summarized data (Polyakov et al., 1979) have also been used. The data for Udmurtia, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Mari-El, and Georgia are absent. The blank map of the area is created by the vectorization using the modern GIS-technologies.Sources of the data:
