Map was created based on a map with scale 1:33 000 000, and on information taken from literature.Projection:
.Alber.s Equal Conic for the USSR., 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0Basic contents:
Vector map. Area of species distribution is shown by polygons. Zones of recorded mass outbreak are shown by polygons.Accuracy of classifier:
Within the area of distribution only a zone of low damage was established according to the extent of damage to fruit crops. The threshold of harmfulness of H. brevis on pear is 3-5 eggs per 100 flowers or fruitlets during bud blossoming. In the zone of low damage the density of H brevis populations only sometimes exceeds the threshold of harmfulness (Ermolenko, 1984).Method of map production:
Scientists were given maps with boundaries of Oblasts and arable lands. After reviewing historic literature, species distribution was hand drawn on maps. Hand drawn maps were scanned, georeferenced and vectorized. The map of the area is based on the following publications: Batiashvili (1959), Mirzoyan (1970), Vasil'ev (1973), Zhelokhovtsev (1988), Zhelokhovtsev & Zinov.ev (1995). The Pear Sawfly area includes the European part north to Byelorussia and east nearly to the Ural region, and the Caucasus. The borders of the damage zone were determined based on the following sources: Gusev et al. (1962), Mirzoyan (1970), Vasil'ev (1973), Tryapitsyn & Zhelokhovtsev (1981), Ermolenko (1984). The zone of low damage is comprised of the South of the European part of the former USSR and the Caucasus. The northern border of the low damage zone is approximately to the border of the steppe and forest-steppe zones, drawn according to the map of Barysheva at al. (1992).Reference citations:
