Perennial grass. Forms dense tussocks. Stalks numerous, well leafed, 40-65 cm high, Leaf width 2-4 mm, almost flat or curtailed, naked, from above rough, from below almost smooth. Spike length 6-20 cm, narrow, bilateral, rather rare, direct or poorly inclined, sometimes glaucescent-green. Spikelets 10-12 (16) mm in length, joints of axes of spikelet with very short spinules. Spikelet scales 8-11.5 mm with 4-7 veins, sometimes glaucescent, gradually pointed. Bottom floral scales of length of 8.5-13 mm, awnless, naked and smooth, except top part of veins has few spinules. Blossoms in July. Anemophilous. 2n=28.Distribution.
