Morphology and biology.

Perennial grass. Forms rather dense mats. Culms 40-80 cm tall. Leaves narrow-linear, 2-3 mm wide, usually convolute, shortly pubescent above. Spike 7-15 cm long, with distant spikelets. Spikelets with 3-5 florets, 10-17 mm long. Glumes 5-7-veined, sharpened. Lemma lanceolate, with awn 2-5 mm long. Flowers in June - August. Anemophilous. 2n=56.

Distribution.

Transcaucasia, mountain regions of Central Asia; Iran.

Ecology.

On stony slopes, rocks and shingles in middle and upper montane zones.

Use and economic value.

Forage grass.
