Perennial herbaceous plant. Root thickened, growing deep in soil. Stems 25-80 cm tall, erect, glabrous or adpressedly pubescent, arising upwards from root collar. Leaflets 4-10 pairs, oblong or elliptic, 1.5-2.5 cm long, 1 cm wide, on both surfaces adpressedly pubescent. Peduncles terminal. Raceme lax, 15-30-flowered. Calyx 4-6 mm long, pubescent. Corolla lilac, purple-lilac, 13-19 mm long. Ovary and pods pubescent, sometimes along both or one suture. Pod segments 2-5, suborbicular, rarely oblong, bordered at margin. Flowers and fruits in June - July. Cross-pollinated entomophilous plant. 2n=14.Distribution.
Southern Siberia, East Kazakhstan, mountains of Tien Shan, Pamir-Alai.Ecology.
In high montane zone, goes down to forest zone; in subalpine, alpine, forest meadows, on stony slopes, in thinned larch forests.Use and economic value.
Good forage plant, may be used for grazing and silage. Also useful for fixing slopes.References:
