The range map is based on published maps (Sokolov et al., 1977; Tolmachev, 1974). The northern border of the range coincides with the border of the forest zone. Eastward, the species is gradually replaced by Siberian spruce (Picea obovata), and forms a great number of transitional forms between the species. The southern border runs along the limit of broad-leaved forests. In Carpathians, it occurs up to the altitude of 2,500 m a.s.l.References:
