Taxonomical position.

Family Poaceae Benth, Genus Poa L.

Morphology and biology.

Long-term cereal. The plant forms long, creeping rhizomes. Stalks reach heights of 40-70 cm. Leaves soft, flat, sometimes grouped lengthwise, 2-3 mm in width. Ligulas up to 5 mm in length, pointed. Panicle friable, pyramidal. Spikelets 6-8 mm in length. The bottom floral scales tomentous along 2/3 of the central vein; other veins half covered by long hairs; between veins, pubescence is short. Blossoms in July-August. Anemophilous; apomictic. 2n=56 (up to 70).

Distribution.

Occur in Arctic Western and Eastern Siberia, the Far East, and Alaska.

Ecology.

Occurs in tundra, in meadows, in coastal sand and among pebbles.

Use and economic value.

Fodder plant.
