Authors:

Biologist specialist - N.N.Luneva,
GIS-specialist - I.A.Budrevskaya.

Date of creation:

10.03.2006.

Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of the map:

It is created on materials of maps of natural scale 1: 10 000 000 and on literature data.

Projection:

"Alber's Equal Area Conic for the USSR", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0.

Basic content:

Vector map. Area of distribution is shown by polygon (main distribution) and by dots (sporadic distribution). Zone of weediness is shown by polygon.

Accuracy of the classifier:

Within the weed area, the zones of its weediness are shown, established by criteria of occurrence (% of fields where this species is found) and abundance (expressed as projective cover of this species in the field (in % to the field area)) (Tanskii et al., 1998), i.e; where the occurrence of this species exceeded 50% with its abundance (projective cover) more than 15%.

Method of map production:

The zones of distribution and weediness are established according to the analysis of the published maps and literature. The area of distribution is based on the map from the publication of Hulten E. & Fries M. (1986) and on the map of Volkov A.N. (1935) supported by data of Nikitin V.V. (1983), Gubanov I.A. et al. (2004). The S. varia distribution in the European part of the former USSR is supported by references (Maevskii, 1954; Shishkin, 1965; Vasil.chenko & Pidotti, 1975; Tsvelev, 2000; Bakin et al., 2000; Grigor.evskaya, 2000; Rodionova, 2001; Zernov, 2002; Artokhin, 2004). Its distribution in Crimea is confirmed by Vul.f E.V. (1969) and Rubtsov N.I. (1972); in the Caucasus by Grossgeim A.A. (1949), Vasil.chenko I.T. & Pidotti O.A. (1975), Galushko A.I. (1980), and Ul.yanova T.N. (1981). The species has been recorded in West Siberia by Artokhin K.S. (2004) and Gubanov I.A. et al. (2003), not corresponding to other references. It meets seldom in Central Asia, particularly in mountains of Turkmenistan only (Nikitin, 1983; Gubanov I.A. et al, 2003). The zone of weediness is established in Chernozem zone according to Keller (1934) and specified by the border of arable land. The sites of sporadic distribution are depicted according to Tsvelev (2000) and Rodionova (2001).
